My trusty laptop, a 5th generation model running Windows 10, has served me well. However, with Microsoft's support for Windows 10 slated to end on October 14th, 2025, I'm starting to feel the pressure to upgrade. I have a little over a year to decide on its replacement, which is both a blessing and a curse.
Initially, the allure of the new M4 MacBook Pro was strong. Its performance and the overall Apple ecosystem are certainly appealing. However, a significant factor is holding me back. I recently invested in a stunning 4K Philips monitor, and the thought of shelling out even more money for a laptop that will primarily be docked to it feels somewhat wasteful. My work is almost exclusively done from home, so portability isn't a major concern. Even replying to emails on the go is easily handled by my phone.
This has led me to a crossroads. On one hand, the compact and powerful Mac Mini offers a cost-effective way to tap into the macOS environment. On the other, a new generation PC laptop would provide a seamless transition from my current setup, with the added benefit of portability should I ever need it. The decision isn't easy, and I'm still weighing the pros and cons of each option. I'll be sure to share my final choice and the reasoning behind it in my next post.
